The relatively-stealthy 2011-2013 Jaguar XJ Supersport is still one of my dream sedans. The AJ-V8 is severely underappreciated, whether it’s aspirations are natural or forced, and the Supersport offers up 510 hp, ride and handling that makes you realize that the Panamera had room to improve, and about the same issues you find on the supercharged V6 XJs so you might as well go ballistic barge at a bargain, baby!

The purple glovebox is a must.

I almost bit the bullet and bought one; I kinda wanted to be really crazy and have two AJ-V8s in my garage at one time. Alas, the terrible gas mileage across to cars, plus the Jag seats not being as comfy as the LR4, made me change my mind.

The rear is so awful though. You been following the NIO news?

I have been! I was definitely surprised that they decided to do the recall all at once instead of spreading it out, but the guidance of 2,000 to 2,500 for August (coming nearly halfway through the month) is good and September deliveries should exceed whatever they do in August. I did lose $8,200 across August calls because of the recall-delivery surprise, but everything still looks good through the end of the year and I can make that loss back in October .
A s long as you hold until the end of January, there should still be around a +90% return , especially sub-$3. If I see something really bad happen and it changes my position then I’ll do another write up.

This surprised me, but the AJ-V8 and ZF 6-speed is a lot more efficient than stated if you aren’t in a lot of stop and go traffic due to the gearing . I’ve been averaging 22 mpg in the city with the 2012 XF . ABQ is of course very easy driving outside of the commuter times, though . I also heard that the supercharged V8 can hit 29 mpg on the highway (but I bet that is from states where the highway limits are 55 mph to 65 mph).

Ah, didn’t realize you did options trading as well! I haven’t jumped off that diving board... yet.

I’ve gotten 22mpg in the LR4 in steady state cruising on flat land (close to 23 along the coast), so I believe it. My commute is just lots of hills and traffic, so it’s closer to 16mpg.

I’ve long loved Jaguar, yet i’ve never owned one. I love the F-type, the X150 XK, and have been debating how bad of an idea it would be to get a XFR.

As someone who drives a AJ-v8 powered car (10' XF 5.0) I can confirm, it will do 29mpg on the highway averaging about 70mph, you’ll see about 17 city. The weak side to these and the XJ is the ZF-6 speed. They have valve body issues that cause rough 2-1 shifts that require the entire valve body assembly to be replaced, to the tune of about $2000 all in. Supposedly after that is done, they are pretty bulletproof and won’t give you anymore issues.
Even knowing that, a v8 XJ of this generation is an absolute steal, they are fantastic vehicles all the way around. You have to love Jaguar depreciation.

One of my neighbors bought one of these not long ago. It the only Jaaaaaag in the (solid middle class) neighborhood. It almost looks out of place. So I look them up on Auto Trader and to my surprise they are not really that pricey.
I’d be interested if I could turn wrenches and get parts for one.

My 10 XF Supercharged can get 26ish mpg at 75... The city mileage is a lot lower lol.
Still, these AJ-V8 Gen III engines get some respectable mileage.
